This used to be my math blog.
Long-time readers of this blog may be wondering what has happened, and new readers searching for some topic or another may be wondering why it no longer exists.
In short, I decided to shut down my old blog for a variety of reasons. One of those reasons was simply support and resources. For a long time, I have not been blogging about math, and so this blog was merely something that was taking up space and bandwidth, which is not free.
I did try a few ways to support it including a small number of advertisements and directly asking readers to subscribe to my YouTube channel. However, none of those worked, so I concluded that very few people found my posts valuable.
A second reason is that I am wary of the ethics of supporting advanced math now, especially since artificial intelligence seems to be making significant strides. For complicated reasoning that may be found elsewhere on this blog, I feel that advanced technical education (mainly computer science and software engineering) is doing more much more harm to the world than good.
These thoughts led me to the conclusion that it is better to shut my old blog down.
I stil enjoy mathematics, but I believe that if mathematics is to be propagated healthily, it should be in conjunction with a more advanced ethical education that would help new practictioners realize the dangers of this powerful tool.
I also wrote a Medium post about leaving academia, which has some more details.
Hi,
I have been subscribed to your blog via RSS for some time. I’ve found numerous of your posts especially valuable in expressing a minority ethos that is quintessential for negating the seemingly inevitble unintended consequences of the current scientific paradigm reigning unchecked, esp in AI. I feel that this is an injustice to human knowledge that your insights have been scrubbed from the records, what do you need to resurrect them?
I will be willing to help where I personally can amd elicit the help from others where I cannot.
Thank you for your reply, Jared. My intention was only to deactivate the math posts. However, I realized I deactivated some of my posts on the ethics and philosophy of technology, but they are now republished so you should be able to see them again.
